So I've been thinking.
This isn't going to be like what happens when Amanda has thoughts, all deep and interesting, so don't get too excited.
I've been thinking about shoes. And handbags. First of all, Puma shoes are just fugly. I don't care how expensive they are. So this is a question for all of you who are studying abroad, or have, or have traveled in Europe.
What kind of purse did you wear? Because all the study abroad people say to only wear a purse with a long strap across your chest and to keep it in front of you. I can't imagine stylish Italian women actually dressing like that. And I'm not entirely sure I want to be without my adorable little Coach handbag for a whole semester. What do you think? Will it scream "I'm an American - try to rob me!" or will it be my safest bet for not looking like a slob?

Also, there is no way in hell I am stuffing money in one of those little sacks people wear under their clothes. That definitely would scream, "paranoid tacky tourist!"

Anyways...I just had a normal purse but I kept it under my arm and zipped all the time. I wouldn't carry anything terribly important in it either. Like passports or whatever.
ware the stylish bag. ware one of those short handled ones. that is way over large. you know. you ware it over your arm like its got long straps but its colse to your body
that way you can have your money close and be stylish too.
always remember, when it comes to being stylish and stupid to taky and smart. always chose the first. the second never leads to good adventures.
and who went studining abroud just to have an average time without any adventures.
No worries on the money belt things - completely uneccessary unless you *want* to strip everytime you buy something.
Things to think about for purses:
*it has to have a zipper top, preferably one under a flap, or that will be stuck under you arm or against your back. Open top totes or just a snap closure are a bad idea.
*What kind of documents, if any, will you need to carry? ie, I have to carry my passport at all times, so it's in a pocket that sits against my hip - make sure there's a secure place to put everything like that
*Can you carry it on your shoulder without it falling off? Since you'll be living there, you'll need to do things like buy groceries and stuff, and you'll probably be walking, so you don't want to have to juggle a purse along with everything else while you're shlepping stuff home.
*Is it big enough to carry your essentials (wallet, lip gloss, etc), your camera, and maybe a small notebook or phrasebook (since you don't speak Italian)?
That's all I can think of for now...My poor purse was new when I brought it over here, and now it's, um, not. Oh, and fyi, long-strapped purses do not make you a slob :-P
